Thanks everyone for the great ideas! I'll try and post the ideas as they come... maybe they can help you sometime, if you're in a similar scenario! Be sure to refresh this page (F5) to view the latest copy. So email me your ideas, and I'll post 'em! rob@robgirard.com

See if you can stop the charge with your visa. Talk to visa and see what they say...

I would print your story and tell the guy that unless he picks up the rental charge and also, throw in a free weekend rental, that it will appear in print in one of our local publications. Great Story!

My personal opinion, you paid for a service and the service failed you. Therefore you should not pay, or at least not pay full price, and maybe the option of a free rental the next time??????? Give them hell Rob

........

[in a later reply email] Perhaps if you can't get through to this guy maybe you need to speak to a supervisor of his... that usually gets there attention!!!
Shelley

Your first mistake was staying with the car. You should have went and returned the keys and told them where the car was. You'll pay for the car, they can handle towing.
Or, Call some beer swilling buddy's on a payphone in Union and tell them to haul ass downtown to help push the car to the spot.
Or, offer the guitar guy 10$ to help push it. Little Hyundai accent aint nothing. Even if you gotta offer another homeless type another $10. (dont pay till job is done or help will evaporate early)
p.s.: the part about jumping in front of the cars was bothersome. You should see a psychiatrist. Or go fishing or something.

SHAWN

NOTE:About the jumping out in front of cars..... you didn't hear how loud and repetitive this guy's guitar solo was!!!!!

Not fun ;o)
Just refuse to pay, you actually have the law on your side, in entering an agreement for purchase or rent of an item, said item has to be fit and capable of the role it is supposed to fill. Obviously this wasn't, firstly refuse to pay and then request what they are going to do to rectify the embarrassment, stress and inconvenience their sub standard product has caused. Ensure any letters or communications are recorded and written firmly yet to the point.
Cheers,

Justin

Looks like a great start Rob!! If the guy at the car shop doesn't help you, keep going up the chain until someone will--that type of experience is unacceptable. Check out my starter site! www.weldonjones.com

I would do the same has Shelley or RobM,just i little more i would tell the name of the Rental place
It an experience to learne and to tell about it.

Daniel

Note:I will give you the name of the place if there are not VERY understanding... as yet they haven't been.

My tip for an ass hole like at the renting car, go rent another car with fake ID at the same place, put a football helmet, get in the car and smash their office... and run like hell.

I know the place is right across the street but I would tell him to shove his discounted weekend rental. He did nothing to try to look after you. You were lucky to talk to him on the phone. He did not stay, go get you himself or do anything to show that he gave a shit. The last thing I would do is give him more money for another rental. Not that I know you or anything, as of course this is just a random site that I hit, but you sound like someone who likes convenience. There are a few car rental places that will pick you up and drop you off. You should talk to someone in a hotel. I am sure they could recommend someplace for you.
