In this, I didn't use a flash, even though my face is bright. I used my blackberry's screen to "scan" my face with it and let the camera pick up the light bouncing off my face from the backlit screen. It's almost impossible to stay completely still for 30 seconds, especially when I'm moving a blackberry around my face!
