Setting a trap
This is me, rigging an alarm to my camera bag. I found some small personal alarms for cheap (<$10) and picked them up before leaving Toronto. Using some dental floss, I tied it to a screw up inside the bedside table. I rigged it fairly tight so that if you pull on the camera bag without disarming it, a piercing alarm (120 db's) would sound and wouldn't stop until the pin was re-inserted. The alarm was in the camera bag so if someone grabbed it and made a run for it, you would hear them running by. This was before we got access to our safe. Even still, all my lenses would not have fit in the safe.
